Re:Claiming Narratives.
For a variety of reasons history is often written with an agenda, to help shore up power and a specific narrative, which results in misrepresentation and omission.
Help us Re:Dress this imbalance, Re:Claim the Narratives that have been neglected, discover new stories and unsung heroes, whilst unpacking the importance of history in our lives.
How do we put back the misattributed, misappropriated achievements? Acknowledging the everyday people and unsung heroes and their achievements across the ages.
On behalf of all those people who’s voices are lost, silenced or still go unheard, we invite you to enter The Missing Museum, and help us Reclaim and Re:Present those narratives . . .
“A living experiential museum - not a dusty one.”
“See it. Hear it. Feel it.”
“It made me feel history rather than just getting it as facts.”

Imagining and exemplifying how a more representative, fuller, more inclusive version of our collective histories and cultural memories can be shared differently.
Community Curators.
We invite our Community Co-Curators to consider . . .
What and whose stories matter ?
What and whose stories are underrepresented ?
What stories do we want to preserve + share to inform the future ?
What and whose stories are missing ?
What’s not there? why is it not there / missing ?
What artefacts make these stories tangible ?
What objects / artefacts do we wish we had ?
What objects / artefacts do we want to collect, or not ?
Who decides ‘what’ and ‘why’ something is preserved / shared?
"Thank you for your bravery"
“It brought history alive. It felt an honouring of their lived experiences.”

"A rich multi-layered experience."
“The past needs to be a mirror to now - what we saw happening then, we need to make sure doesn’t repeat.”

Immersive Learning Experience.
The Missing Museum presents you, as Curators, with an opportunity to enter our Museum Without Walls. Inviting you to engage with our cultural heritage based storytelling, noticing what is absent - redressing the stories that are missing and the people who are under represented.
It is time to bridge the gaps in our shared local histories.
It is your role as Community Curators to make sure our collections and collective cultural memories, host more honest, fuller representations, and create the space for inserting the omissions.
Once you don your top hat, smooth out your ‘tache, and put on your handling gloves, what changes will you make to redress the imbalances?

The Missing Museum goes North . . .
The MIssing Museum is not a display to be merely observed, but a space and headset to enter. It invites and evokes reflection, conversation, and playful participation.
As such, it is an entity which moves through time and space, morphing to suit contexts and communities.
This led to a 9 month commission from Findhorn Bay Arts, to collaborate with inimitable local poet and storyteller Margot Henderson to bring to life a bespoke Missing Museum experience for Forres.
In March 2025, Forres’ Tolbooth transformed into a different kind of museum - one without objects behind glass, one built instead by the stories, interests, knowledge, lived experience, skills and imagination of the community itself as the good folx of Findhorn + Forres took on the role of The Missing Museum’s Community Curators.
Led by a community cast of Time Travelling Steampunk Tour Guides and local historic characters, this incarnation of The Missing Museum evolved into a powerful immersive journey through Forres history/herstories, that few will forget…
